The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)Nueva Vizcaya Provincial Office led the monthly monitoring of proper placement of price tags and labels of products in stalls and retail stores in Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya public markets.
A total of forty-two (42) establishments composed of hardware stores, rice retailers, drug stores and retail stores were monitored. They also underwent re- orientation on the proper placement of price tags and labels on products conducted by DTI.
The conduct of the inspection is pursuant to Republic Act No. 71, otherwise known as the Price Tag Law of the Philippines wherein DTI is mandated to ensure that products being sold at retail or stores have their respective price tags and labels.
Chief Trade and Industry Development Specialist, Ms. Preciosa Maglaya spearheaded the inspection. She reminded business establishments that non-compliance to the Price Tag Law is tantamount to legal consequences as inscribed in the said law.
Ms. Maglaya said that, the Price tag law is in placed to protect consumers against deceptive, unfair, and unconscionable sales act and practices as provided by Republic Act No. 7394 or the Consumer Act of the Philippines in particular.
The proper placement of price tags and labels in various retail products is indicative of the adequate information provided to consumers to enable them to compare the prices of goods being sold.
