Of the One hundred thirteen (113) units of weighing scales calibrated by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in Piat and Tuguegarao City Public Markets, fifteen (15) defective units were confiscated in Tuguegarao City.
In close partnership with the Local Government Unit of Tuguegarao, Senior trade and Industry development specialist Mr. Lourdito Antonio led the enforcement in the two public markets on April 17 and 21, 2015 respectively. He was accompanied by team members: Mr. Mar Anthony Alan and Maria Liza Guzman, both trade and industry development specialists.
Two (2) LGU representatives were also present during the enforcement operation.
Mr. Antonio said that, the surprise inspection of weighing scales is part of DTI’s campaign in ensuring the protection of buyers from unscrupulous sellers.
He reminded the sellers to calibrate their weighing scales to avoid sanctions that may be imposed to them once they will be found violating, as provided under Republic Act 7394 or the Consumer Act of the Philippines.
Meanwhile, an Orientation on Weights and Measures & Calibtration & Sealing of Weighing Scales was conducted for the employees of LGU Isabela and some members of the Market Vendors Association held at LGU Hall, Tumauini, Isabela on April 15, 2015.
