The Department of Trade and Industry and Local Government Unit of Tuguegarao City recently participated in a benchmarking and scoping mission to the 16th China – ASEAN Exposition (CAEXPO) on September 21 – 24, 2019, at Nanning International Convention and Exhibition Center, Nanning, China

CAEXPO is one of the largest trade and investment promotion events aimed at promoting the China – ASEAN Free Trade Area (CAFTA) through sharing of opportunities to Local Government Units (LGUs) and interaction with investors from various industries from across the world.

The scoping mission provided actual learning experience and better perspectives on Chinese and Asian market to prepare the Tuguegarao City Government (TCG) for the influx of local and foreign investors, and for its participation in the 2020 CAEXPO where the city is groomed to represent the Philippines in the City of Charms Pavillion.

Region 02’s delegation also participated in a banquet dinner for the Philippine and foreign delegations sponsored by the Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry with Undersecretary Abdulgani M. Macatoman of DTI Trade Promotions Group.

As observed, local products in Tuguegarao City have the potential to compete in the ASEAN market given the proper product development programs and mindset.

Other activities visited by the delegation were the following: investment promotion seminar; commodity pavilions of China and countries in East Asia; and trade exhibitions and various investment seminars.

In an interview with Dr. Elena A. Tuddao, City Economic and Investments Promotion Officer (CEIPO), she shared that CAEXPO is a giant step in promoting the city’s expertise and potentials not only to the ASEAN countries but to the whole world. She further said that the activity offers a lot of exposure for Tuguegarao City as a growing and bustling business city in the north.

The delegation is composed of DTI PD Ma. Salvacion A. Castillejos; Dr. Tuddao, CEIPO; Atty. Princess Kae Mallillin, Executive Assistant I; and Atty. Jonanette Edillo – Siriban, Executive Assistant I.
