Dengue cases continue to rise in an alarming state for the past eight months in the province of Batanes. In response to this, various anti-dengue activities had been conducted by the local government units (LGUs).
On August 11, 2018, LGU - Basco mounted the “Outbreak Run: Takbo Kontra Dengue, in collaboration with the Municipal Health Office. The run-for-cause was initiated to continually raise awareness in the public on the reality of dengue and how to avoid it, as well as to raise funds for Dengue Prevention and Control activities.
The Department of Trade and Industry – Batanes Provincial Office, headed by Provincial Director Marietta B. Salviejo, showed full support to the event through their active participation in the activity. PD Salviejo and most of her staff joined the 5 - kilometer run from Basco Plaza to Chanarian and back, while TIDS Liz Minerva F. Raterta ran the 10 kilometer stretch from Basco Plaza to the Municipality of Mahatao and back.
The DTI-Batanes constantly works collaboratively with the provincial and local government units in promoting socio-cultural, economic and environmental causes. It is the agency’s way of living up to DTI’s mantra “Serbisyong Higit Pa Sa Inaasahan.”
