Finally embracing the principles of the Local and Regional Economic Development (LRED) approach to economic development, the local government unit of Roxas, Isabela fine-tuned their LRED action plans promising to implement them to improve local economy.

On May 25, 2018, participants coming from both public and private sectors convened for the Fine-tuning meeting held at the Roxas Municipal Hall. Earlier on October 26-27, 2017, the same group attended an LRED Workshop in which they identified burning issues that hinder economic development in their locality, and programs and strategies to address these issues. The workshop’s outputs were Action Plans which were then presented for fine-tuning.

The LGU agreed to undertake the following strategies:

  1. Purposive development and promotion of the One Town, One Product;
  2. Intensified operations of the APTC; and
  3. Effective and efficient operationalization of the Local Investments and Incentives Code (LIIC)

The final Action Plans shall be presented to the Sangguniang Bayan (SB) and the Local Chief Executive for approval and implementation.

In his message to the participants, OIC RD Ruben B. Diciano pointed out that LGUs which adopted the LRED approach are now reaping their gains. He said that LGU Roxas is also moving towards becoming a more progressive municipality.

Municipal Administrator Andres Vicente, on his part, conveyed his appreciation to the participants as he enjoined everyone to support the efforts to make the municipality of Roxas more economically progressive. He said that the program will definitely benefit everyone.

The LRED is a participatory, action oriented, and holistic planning approach to improving the business climate and economic conditions in a locality. The program is implemented by LGUs in partnership with the DTI with the support of other government agencies and private sector groups.
