The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Region 02 recently launched the Kapatid Mentor ME (KMME) Program Batch 3 & 4 in Batanes on March 20, 2018.

The KMME Program was successfully implemented in the Province of Batanes in 2017 producing the first two batches of mentees with a total of 40 MSMEs who graduated from the program. For this year, 40 MSMEs were enrolled to undergo the same program.

Batanes Governor Honorable Marilou H. Cayco graced the launching activity. In her message, she stressed the importance of having programs like the KMME to continuously guide MSMEs improve and develop their own chosen enterprises. She also encouraged the participants to maximize the opportunities provided by DTI.

“Gusto kong kunin itong pagkakataon na magpasalamat kay Regional Director Diciano sa walang sawang suporta para sa ating probinsiya”, expressed by Governor Cayco.

Meanwhile, in the opening message of DTI Region 02 OIC-Regional Director Mr. Ruben B. Diciano, he emphasized that the program aims to assist the mentees to sustain and scale up their businesses by capacitating them the basics of entrepreneurship through the coaching of successful businessmen who are known as their “Mentors”. He also gave the assurance that DTI will be helping and guiding them all throughout the program and will provide necessary assistance to them.

Mr. Paul Anthony De Guzman, Marketing Officer of the Philippine Center for Entrepreneurship (PCE) briefly discussed the KMME Program and its milestones since the program’s inception. 

Mr. De Guzman encouraged the mentees to complete the program by presenting a video clip of successful MSMEs who have undergone the same program and a short video message of Presidential Adviser for Entrepreneurship and Go Negosyo Founder Jose Ma. Concepcion III.

Part of the launching was the discussion of the first two modules of KMME. For Module 1: Entrepreneurial Mind-set and Values Formation, it was presented by Mr. Salvador “Butch” Oliveros Salvador, owner of CarMagic franchises and a well-known entrepreneur who has been numerously featured in various television shows.

Mr. Salvador emphasized the importance of not giving up, for being resourceful and persevering in sustaining one’s business. He said,  “Pag kayo ay lagpak na sa ibaba, the only way is to go up. Climb to the top!”

On the other hand, For the Module 2: Marketing, it was discussed by Ms. Arlene Padua-Martinez, President and Managing Director of Post10 Worldwide Inc. and one of the pioneer mentors of the ASEAN Mentorship Network (AMEN) and current President of the Philippine Marketing Association.

She emphasized the importance of knowing necessary strategies on marketing products and services such as knowing the advantages in terms of location, price, unique products, among others. She said,  “Always ask yourselves, ano ang meron sa produkto ko or negosyo ko na wala sa iba. Find your advantage.”.

Former mentee Ms. Joana Jose, owner of Lamon Center and Artists’ Alley shared her own story to encourage and inspire the mentees to complete the program. She shared on how the KMME Program helped her develop her business.

 Ms. Jose said, “I started my business with Php1,500.00 only at ngayon malayo na ang narating nun. KMME helped me a lot to achieve my business goals.”

Meanwhile, in her closing remarks, DTI-Batanes OIC-Provincial Director Marietta B. Slaviejo said that DTI Batanes is doing its best to bring the necessary interventions to increase productivity and development of the local industry, trade and services (ITS) sector of the Province. “Kung merong Build, Build, Build program ang Duterte Administration on infrastructure, meron din naman sa DTI na Mentor, Mentor, Mentor me to build relationships and develop businesses”, PD Salviejo added.

A business cliniquing and consultation was condcuted in the afternoon with mentees and mentors Mr. Salvador and Ms. Padua-Martinez.

A total of 50 MSMEs and guests attended the launching. Also present during the launching were Batanes Vice Governor Honorable Ronald Aguto, Basco Mayor Honorable Anastacia B. Viola, PCE-accredited Mentor Mr. Eduardo Delfin and PCCI-Batanes Chapter acting President Emma P. Adarme
