The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Region 02 and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Region 02 partnered to implement the BAMBOO BASIC: Business Promotion and Advocacy for Higher Productivity on December 14-15, 2017 at the DENR-Narra Hall, Tuguegarao City, Cagayan.
Joined by 30 representatives of people’s organizations under the National Greening Program and NGP focal persons in the region, the activity updated and enhanced the knowledge of the participants on the following areas: 1.) Introduction to Bamboo Industry 2.) Nursery Stock Production and Management 3.) Plantation Establishment 4.) Rehabilitation of Old and Unmanaged Bamboo Clumps 5.) Hands-on Demonstration on Nursery Lay-out, Plantation Establishment and Rehabilitation Techniques 6.) Bamboo Financial Profitability Analysis.
Dr. Edmund Baccay, the Director for Research and Extension of Tarlac Agricultural University served as the resource speaker for the activity.
In his message, Director Ruben B. Diciano of DTI-Region 02 emphasized the importance of developing the backward linkages of bamboo processors for the sustainable growth of the sector most especially that supply remains a major concern of all the priority industries.
The seminar-training comprises of different lectures, site visits and actual demonstrations on stock production and maintenance and rehabilitation of bamboo clumps.
The 2-day activity was well accepted by the participants especially that they have gained new ideas on managing their respective nurseries and plantations. Moreover, they were able to appreciate the significance and the various potentials of their businesses.
