The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Regional Office 02 in cooperation with the Torch Training and Consultancy conducted a two-day workshop on Basic Category Management and Merchandising on 22-23 November 2017 at the Crown Pavilion, Tuguegarao City, Cagayan through the OTOP Next Gen program.
A total of 65 participants attended the activity composed of individual entrepreneurs, officers of different Cooperatives, Associations, and Rural Improvement Clubs, LGU representatives from the Provinces of Cagayan, Isabela and Nueva Vizcaya and eight (8) from the DTI – Regional and Provincial Offices, the workshop aims to train local participants in proper store management of space requirement and enhance their capabilities in managing a product display in their stores and in various trade fairs.
In his welcome message, OIC Regional Director Ruben B. Diciano encouraged the participants to continue to strive, be the best they can be and always remember that marketing is an integral part of their business. He also shared to them the quote from a college professor “Do what you love at least a little bit and if you have to do something else to support what you love, do it and succeed”.
Ms. Danica Regina G. Caynap of Torch Training and Consulting, served as the trainer for the two-day activity. Among the topics she discussed were the following: Store Merchandising, Basic Principles of Category Management using the 8-Step Harris Model and Understanding the Market and Shopper Behavior.
She also conducted workshops on the following: identifying their shoppers, how to assign category roles on our products, and hands-on planogram demo.
The DTI - Division Chief of the SME Development Division, Ms. Leovilda S. Tumaliuan in her closing remarks congratulated the participants for completing the two-day workshop and encouraged them to participate in any capacity building seminars that DTI offers to further develop their marketing and management skills and to be more competitive.
