The Department of Trade and Industry Regional Office No. 02 (DTI R02) in coordination with the Provincial Offices mounted the 11th Padday na Lima Regional Trade Fair on September 19-25, 2017 at the 2nd Level Carousel Court, Festival Supermall, Alabang, Muntinlupa City.
The word “Padday na Lima,” is an Ybanag vernacular, which means, “made by the hands.”
The Fair showcased the top of the line products of the five provinces of Region 02, namely: Batanes, Cagayan, Isabela, Quirino and Nueva Vizcaya and highlighted thecraftsmanship and innovativeness of Cagayan Valley artisansin weaving, carving, basketry, fossilized flower making and many more using indigenous materials.
A grand total of P 6,483,693.00 cash sales and booked orders were generated during the fair.
About 64 exhibitors coming from Cagayan, Isabela, Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, and from the Island of Batanes participated in the trade fair.
A wide array of Food Products, Fresh Fruits and Vegetables, Furniture & Furnishings, Wearables and Accessories, Health and Wellness, Ornamental Plants, Giftwares, Holiday Decors were showcased during the Fair.
Meanwhile, Honorable Demphna Du-Naga, Assistant Secretary of the Regional Operations Group and the OTOP Next Gen National Coordinator together with the DTI R02 OIC Regional Director Ruben B. Diciano, and Provincial Directors: PD Bernardino G. Mabborang (Cagayan), PD Ma. Salvacion A. Castillejos (Isabela), OIC PD Henry O. Conel, Jr. (Nueva Vizcaya), OIC PD Ma. Sofia G. Narag (Quirino), PC Marietta A. Salviejo (Batanes), Mayor Lolita Garcia (Sta. Teresita, Cagayan) and Ms. Ma. Susana Cortez of the Design Center of the Philippines graced the opening ceremonies on September 19, 2017.
OIC RD Diciano expressed in his welcome remarks his heartfelt gratitude to the ROG, DTI-R02 Management and to the MSMEs for bringing the best of Cagayan Valley in Manila and for the first time after 10 years, the RTF was brought outside the comforts of the region. He encouraged all the MSMEs to make the best out of this opportunity and expand their horizon so they could compete in the domestic and international markets.
Assistant Secretary Naga was the guest speaker and in her speech, she commended the MSMEs for taking one step higher in promoting their products on a larger scale. The presence in the Fair is a manifestation of their standing success as a thriving enterprise.
One of the special activities conducted were the Flavors of Cagayan Valley where customers have tasted the best delicacies of the different provinces from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM and Happy Hour, where the buyers and exhibitors enjoyed the spirit of the region’s best fruit wines from 5:00 PM-6:00 PM.
Among the guests who visited the Fair were RD Myrna Pablo of DTI-CAR, ARD Marcelina S. Alcantara of DTI Region 4A, Mr. Hubert D. Par of DTI Region 4A GREAT Women Coordinator, representatives from the City Government of Muntinlupa, designers from Region 4A and Ms. Pilita Corales, Asia’s Queen of Songs.
Booth and Product Contest was also conducted, judged by Ms. Ma. Susana Cortez of the Design Center of the Philippines, Mr. Jet Castañeda of the Bureau of Domestic Trade and Promotion and Mr. Leon Flores III of the Regional Operations Group.
MSME awardees from Region 2 were (1) KMK Food Products, Best Dressed Booth (2) RLGV Fruit Wine Industry-Crispy Okra, Most Innovative Product (Food Sector) (3) Quirino Youth in Action-Bamboo Crafts, Most Innovative Product (Non-Food Sector).
Top- sellers for the fair were (1) RLGV Fruit Wine Industry for the food sector with Php419,800.00 sales (2) Four H Furniture and Handicraft with Php1,088,200.00 sales, and (3) Maddela Flowers and Crafts with Php442,000.00 sales.
The exhibitors were encouraged to continue to be inspired, receptive to every development and level-up. Moreover, the exhibitors were very thankful for events like this where they can share what they have and their learning experiences as well.
