The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) organized series of Business Education Seminar on Trade and Industry Laws for the different provinces in Region 02.

The Business Education Seminar aimed to intensify awareness of business owners on the different Fair Trade Laws and remind them on their responsibilities towards consumers as well as encourage business establishments to participate in the DTI Bagwis Program.

Business Education Seminar for the province of Cagayan was conducted at the Events Place, Hotel Carmelita, Tuguegarao City, Cagayan which was attended by about 110 business owners and representatives from hardware, appliance and grocery stores, service and repair shops, some DTI personnel and LGU representatives.

Mr. Romeo T. Fragata of Department of Environment and Natural Resources R02 discussed Greening the Business Operations. He encouraged the business owners to practice environment friendly business operation and shared some options on how to reduce and prevent pollution. 

Mr. Mar Anthony Alan and Mr. Lourdito Antonio of DTI Cagayan Provincial Office discussed about the 1.) Regulations on Service and Repair Shops Accreditation and 2.) Mandatory Markings and Labelling Requirements of Products specified under Annex I of DTI-DAO 15-01, series of 2015 respectively.

Ms. Elena A Madriaga of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) discussed about financial Literacy.

Other speakers were Ms. Linda Tan, Officer-in- Charge of the Consumer Protection Division for the No Shortchanging Act and Bagwis Program, Ms. Corazon Soriano, DTI Cagayan for the Complaints Handling, Ms. Felicidad Baylon of DTI Cagayan  for the provisions of the Consumer Act  of the Philippines.

Meanwhile, the same seminar was conducted in Batanes onAugust 1, 2017 held at the Human Resource Training Center, Batanes attended by 80 participants from the trading and services sector of Batanes.

For the province of Batanes,the activity was an off- shoot of the initial meeting with Governor Marilou H. Cayco who requested such activity to be conducted to inform the business sectors of the different business laws. 

DTI OIC Provincial Director Marietta B. Salviejo, together with the DTI Enforcement Team composed of Team Leader  Mr.  Lourdito Antonio from DTI Cagayan, members Mr.Elmer A. Agorto from DTI Isabela and Ms. Liz Minerva F. Raterta of DTI Batanes facilitated the conduct of activity.

Among the topics discussed were the Price Tag Law, Price Act, Labeling Law and the Product Standards Law.The speakers emphasized the importance of knowing and complying with the different trade and industry laws to protect the consumers and the business establishments in general.

The seminar also provided opportunities for the audience to ask questions related to these laws or other consumer issues and concerns.

OIC PD Marietta B. Salviejo encouraged the participants to visit the Negosyo Center at the DTI Batanes Provincial Office for any other inquiries, assistance or other services.



Likewise, DTI Quirino Provincial Office spearheaded by OIC Provincial Director Ma. Sofia G. Narag conducted similar activity on August 09, 2017 at DISADECO Function Hall, A. Bonifacio, Diffun, Quirino.

About 48 business owners and representatives from business sectors participated in the said activity.

Moreover, Ms. Linda C. Tan, OIC Division Chief of Consumer Protection Division gave an overview of the activity and discussed about the Senior Citizen and PWD Discounts.

While Mr. Lovell Mark Campania, elaborated on Price Tag, Labelling and Fair Packaging, Deceptive, Unfair and Unconscionable Sales Act and Practices, Consumer Product and Services Warranties, No Shortchanging Act and product Standards.

Ms. Anna Katrina Garcia and Ms. Aimee Garcia discussed about Regulation of Repair and Service Firms, product Quality and Safety, Balik Bayan Boxes and Text Scams.

Part of the event also was the organization of the Business Group facilitated by Ms. Joan Carian.
