The Cagayan Valley Regional Cacao Industry Council (CVRCIC) held its first quarter meeting on 21 April 2017 at the NERBAC-CV Conference Room, Tuguegarao City, Cagayan. The meeting was presided over by the RCIC Co-Chairperson, Ms. Kaye Lactao and was attended by fifteen (15) regular members of the council comprising a quorum.
One of the agenda during the meeting is the discussion on the Philippine Cacao Roadmap 2017-2022 discussed by Ms. Ragel Tacazon of DTI-R02. She presented the goals and the strategies integrated in the national roadmap and gathered inputs among the members of the council on how Region 02 can contribute to the desired outcomes. Major agreements in this regard include data gathering which will be spearheaded by Department of Agriculture (DA) through its experiment stations and shall be supplemented by data from Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and DTI, promotion of nursery accreditation in the region, technology transfer for farmers and government technicians through ATI, council’s involvement in monitoring the quality of seedlings distributed by the government and FDA Certification among others. Ms. Tacazon also highlighted the functions of the CVRCIC and the draft EO recognizing the Philippine Cacao as the lead in national cacao development. She further discussed the agreements during the National Cacao Meeting in Davao City and the commitments of Region 02 for 2017.
Mr. Michael Paggabao of DTI-R02for his part discussed the 2017 Work Plan of Region 02 for the Cacao Industry and has encouraged the council to actively participate and engage in the implementation of the activities. The council agreed to adopt the work plan and will discuss some concerns directly to the concerned agencies to ensure the results are maximized for the benefit of the industry.
Ms. Kaye Lactao informed the body on the various activities related to Cacao Industry such as the 2nd Regional Cacao Forum on June 1, 2017, National Cacao Congress in June and Kakao Konek in July. The council discussed the possibility of requesting assistance from agencies and LGUs for its participation in the mentioned activities.
The members agreed to conduct the 2nd Quarter Meeting on July 4, 2017 in the province of Nueva Vizcaya.
