DTI-Quirino Emergency Response Team composed of Mr. Lovell Mark C. Campania, Mr. Anzon F. Babaran, Ms. Aimee C. Garcia, and Mr. John Rey M. Aquinde attended the two-day training on Occupational First Aid and Basic Life Support on April 10-11, 2017 at CFFQI Building, Capitol Hills, San Marcos, Cabarroguis, Quirino.

The activity, which was spearheaded by the Philippine Red Cross in partnership with the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office of Quirino, aimed to capacitate the emergency response teams of the different government agencies in the province so they can perform their duties better in times of emergencies and calamities particularly those resulting to disasters and injuries.

Mr. Benjamin Viray, a registered nurse and Volunteer Rescuer of the Philippine Red Cross served as the training facilitator during the 2-day training. He discussed the overview of the activity and the importance of performing first aid. He also taught the procedures on how to apply first aid treatment for different kinds of injuries when accidents and emergencies occur such as cuts, burns, choking, fainting, heat stroke, shock, among others.

The participants acquired skills and knowledge on bandaging techniques, CPR Procedure and lifting techniques through demonstrations by the facilitators and return demo by the participants. The highlight of the activity was the re-enactment of an earthquake scene where some participants acted as victims of the disaster while the others performed as first aiders and applied all their learning during the two day seminar.
