The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Region 02, in collaboration with the Regional Competitiveness Committee (RCC), awarded the City of Ilagan, Isabela as the Most Competitive City in Region 02 for 2016 during the 1st Cagayan Valley Regional Competitiveness Forum and Workshop held on 13 December 2016 in the Provincial Capitol of Isabela.

The award was anchored on the results of the 2016 Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index (CMCI) Survey which measured the level of competitiveness of participating Local Government Units (LGUs) in terms of Economic Dynamism, Government Efficiency, and Infrastructure. 

A total of 110 LGUs participated in the Component Cities Category, 490 LGUs in the 1st and 2nd Class Municipalities Category, and 755 LGUs in the 3rd to 6th Class Municipalities Category.

Prior to the awarding ceremony, plenary sessions were conducted, namely: Regional Economic Situationer: Opportunities and Challenges to Local Competitiveness; Competitive Cities: Which are They and Why Should We Care? and Analysis of the 2016 CMCI Survey Results.

“The award is both an eye-opener and a challenge for the City of Ilagan to perform better and explore more innovations for the good of our clients,” said BPLO Chief Jesus T. Ammaguan, Jr.
