The Department of Trade and Industry was one of the stakeholders tapped by the Department of Tourism to participate in the conduct of a series of Focused Group Discussions (FGDs) held in Santiago, Isabela, Tuguegarao City and Aparri, Cagayan on March 15, 16 and 17, 2016 respectively.
The last leg of the FGD series that was conducted in Aparri, Cagayan on March 17, 2016 was intended for the identified Tourism Development Areas consisting of the coastal municipalities of Cagayan (denoted as NP1B) and the island municipality of Calayan (denoted as NP1C).
In attendance were designated Municipal Tourism Officers, tourism establishment operators and representatives of national government agencies that have tourism-related programs.
DTI-Cagayan DC Winston T. Singun represented the office in the Aparri FGD. He expounded on the inclusion of Support to Tourism as one of the priority industry clusters being promoted by DTI.
He also reported the assistance extended by DTI to a number of hotels, restaurants and resorts through the deployment of a Volunteer Advisor (VA) from the Canadian Executive Service Organization (CESO).
Mr. Singun further emphasized the importance of an LGU having a Local Investments and Incentive Code (LIIC) that list tourism as a priority sector in order to attract potential investors in tourism facilities.
