The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) R02 has conducted 4 big events at the Mart One Mall, Santiago City last November 2014.

Among these events were “The Great Cagayan Valley Region 7th OTOP Congress” on November 26, 2014, “The Great Cagayan Valley Region 7th Padday na Lima OTOP Trade Fair” on November 26-30, 2014, “The Great Cagayan Valley Region 6th Consumer Assembly” on November 27, 2014 and Forum on Doing Business in Free Trade Areas on November 28, 2014.

Santiago City Mayor Joseph Tan lauds DTI R02 for its support to local entrepreneurs and for choosing Santiago City to be the venue of the four events. He said that, The Great Cagayan Valley Region 7th OTOP Congress with this year’s theme “Kahit Saan, Kahit Kailan… Proud Ako sa OTOP Ko!” has perfectly showcased the promotion of various local products in Cagayan Valley including the products of Santiago City.

The different programs of the Department of Trade and Industry provided various livelihood opportunities, more jobs and increased the City’s economic status, he added.

About 2,564 or 209 % new SMES and 3,189 or 109 % existing SMEs were assisted with 19,939 or 109% jobs generated as of October 2014.

Alongside with the event, The Great Cagayan Valley Region 7th Padday na Lima OTOP Trade Fair”  which showcased the Local Government Units’ OTOP was conducted and participated by twenty seven (27) exhibitors from various LGUs in region.

Further, several special side events were prepared such as the Barista Show, Crafts demonstrations on Corn Husk Weaving, Loom Weaving, Bead works and cultural show staged by the DTI R02 Ensemble.

According to the Mart One Management, there was a significant increase in the number of mall goers visiting their mall during the trade fair.

Meanwhile, “The Great Cagayan Valley Region 6th Consumer Assembly” with this year’s theme: YES to I- MOVERS (Improved Market Operations for Vigilant, Efficient and Responsive Service) was conducted wherein several technical sessions were presented such as Adopting Green market for a sustainable and ecologically-friendly environment, testing, calibration and sealing of weights and measures, and salient provisions of RA10642: Philippine “Lemon Law”, among others.

DTI regional director Atty.Ma. Esperanza C. Banares led the induction of school-based consumer groups and followed by the presentation of regional and provincial Consumer welfare and Protection accomplishments reports.

Awarding of Seals of excellence to the 2014 Bagwis Awardees and distribution of Notice of award of Timbangan ng Bayan to cities and municipalities in region 02were also some of the highlights of the consumer assembly.

A one (day) forum on Doing Business in Free Trade Areas was conducted last November 28, 2014 to further increase awareness of various Traders and Hotel Restaurants owners on the substantial benefits of Free Trade Agreements to businesses.
